The Democratic Alliance (right-wing coalition) won the Assembly of the Republic elections in the Azores constituency.
The PSD, CDS, and PPM increased the number of deputies elected by the Azores from two to three.
The PS (center-left party) was the big loser on election night, electing only one deputy, the same number as Chega (an extreme right party), which almost equaled the results achieved by the Azorean socialists.
The Azores were the constituency with the highest abstention rate in Sunday’s legislative elections, at 56.19%.
Eight of the ten municipalities with the highest abstention rates are in the Azores constituency. Ribeira Grande leads with 62.34%, and Vila Franca do Campo is second with 61.38%.
Vila do Porto (59.78%) is in fourth place, followed by Povoação (59.62%) and Calheta (59.20%). Velas (57.31%), Vila Praia da Vitória (57.04%), and Lagoa (56.79%) are in eighth place.
