The Council of the Azorean Diaspora was created in July 2019 by unanimous decision of the Azores Parliament.
It is an advisory body to the Regional Government that aims to listen to Azoreans and their descendants living outside the region on matters of common interest.
It does not replace the indispensable mission of the Azorean diaspora’s associative movement, much less the institutional contribution of the Casas dos Açores, but adds another voice to this joint effort.
It meets ordinarily every two years, under the chairmanship of His Excellency the President of the Government.
It is composed of 35 members, including 19 advisors chosen by the Azorean diaspora itself through electoral circles in Bermuda (1), Brazil (5), Canada (5), the United States of America (5), Uruguay (1), mainland Portugal and Madeira (1), and the rest of the world (1).
These councilors are elected for four years through the digital platform Açorianos no Mundo.
Here are the results for the next four years. The election was held online over the last few days.

The Azorean Diaspora Council (CDA) aims to ensure the participation, collaboration, and consultation of Azoreans around the world in defining common goals for the development of the Azores through debate, opinions, suggestions, and proposals related to emigration and the Azorean diaspora.
The Azorean Diaspora Council has the following responsibilities:
- To involve Azoreans living outside the archipelago in the debate and definition of public policies and public projects in the Azores, with a particular focus on fostering relations between the region and the Azorean diaspora around the world;
- To issue opinions on legislation, programs, or measures developed by the Regional Government related to Azorean emigration and diaspora;
- To contribute to the definition and coordination of policies to strengthen relations between the diaspora and the Region, through opinions, suggestions, and proposals;
- Ensure the hearing and representation of public and private entities that, within the Region, carry out tasks related to emigration and Azorean communities;
- Propose initiatives that meet the needs and aspirations of Azoreans around the world;
- Improve the coordination of actions between partners and stakeholders;
- Exercise other powers assigned to it by law.
