The Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities promoted the launch of the magazine “Açorianidade” on Monday, during the reception ceremony for representative emigrants attending the Festas do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, hosted by the President of the Azores Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, at the Palácio da Conceição.
Designed by the Regional Directorate for Communities, this biannual publication invites readers to discover the initiatives, actions, and events that promote the enhancement of Azorean communities and their relationship with the Region.
This first issue is dedicated to the first international colloquium Pensar a Diáspora (Thinking about the Diaspora), organized by the Regional Directorate for Communities on March 20 and 21 at the Coliseu Micaelense. The event brought together several personalities of Azorean origin, representing various areas of society, from Azorean communities in Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, the United States, and Uruguay.
The speeches given by the speakers at the opening session and the seven panels of the colloquium form the editorial basis of the inaugural edition of the magazine, which has 232 pages and is published in Portuguese and English.
The magazine “Açorianidade” opens with an institutional message from the President of the Azores Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, followed by a preface by the Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, Paulo Estêvão.
In addition to these contributions, the publication also includes speeches by the President of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, Luís Garcia, the Mayor of Ponta Delgada, Pedro Nascimento Cabral, and the Regional Director for Communities, José Andrade, presented at the opening session of the colloquium, followed by the inaugural lecture given by Onésimo Teotónio Almeida.
The magazine is completed by the bilingual texts of the papers presented by António Cabral and Martin Medeiros (Political Panel), Lélia Nunes and Maria João Maciel Jorge (Cultural Panel), Diniz Borges and José Carlos Teixeira (Social Panel), Duarte Miranda and Manuel de Medeiros (Economic Panel), Richard Ambrósio and Roberto Rodriguez (Generational Panel), Francisco Resendes and Norberto Aguiar (Communication Panel), Francisco Viveiros, Régis Marques Gomes, David Pimentel, Paulo Jorge Cabral, and Manuela Meneses (Institutional Panel).
The magazine “Açorianidade” reaffirms the Azores Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening ties between the Region and its communities, promoting the sharing of actions and initiatives that enrich the relationship between the archipelago and its diaspora.
The printed edition, now launched, will be complemented by an online edition.
