The Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities is promoting the Third Meeting of Media Directors from the Azores and North America, this time in Canada, more precisely in the cities of Toronto and Montreal, from June 12 to 16.
The initiative, organized by the Regional Directorate for Communities, brings together media outlets from the Azores with their Canadian counterparts serving Portuguese communities in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, to discuss new challenges in transatlantic communication and sharing information, experiences, and knowledge among these media outlets.
The meeting program begins in the province of Ontario on June 12, with visits by representatives of the Azores media to Camões TV, Camões Rádio, and Chin Radio and TV in Toronto, as well as to the newspaper Correio da Manhã Canadá and CMCTV and CIRV FM radio in Brampton.
The following morning, June 13, visits to OMNI Television and FPTV are scheduled.
In the afternoon, the first session of the Third Meeting of Media Directors from the Azores and North America will take place, chaired by the Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, Paulo Estêvão, at the Graciosa Community Center in Toronto, with the participation of various media outlets from the Azores and the province of Ontario, divided into panels dedicated to the press, radio, and television.
On June 14, at the Casa dos Açores do Quebeque in Montreal, the second session of the Meeting will be held, also chaired by the Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, and will once again be attended by the media outlets from the Azores participating in the initiative and, this time, the press, radio, and television outlets serving the local Portuguese-speaking communities.
On June 15, the Azorean delegation will participate in the traditional Festas do Divino Espírito Santo (Feast of the Holy Spirit) of the Laval community and, the following day, will visit LusaQTV and Rádio Centre-Ville.
The Azorean media outlets Diário dos Açores, Diário Insular, Ilha Maior, Tribuna das Ilhas, Rádio Atlântida, Rádio Clube Asas do Atlântico, Rádio Clube de Angra, RTP Açores, and VITEC – Azores TV will participate in this Third Meeting of Media Directors of the Azores and North America.
On behalf of the media outlets serving the Portuguese communities in these two Canadian provinces, two dozen entities will be present, 15 of which are based in Ontario (Correio da Manhã Canadá, Jornal de Toronto, North News, O Milénio Stadium, Revista Amar, Revista Luso Life, Camões Radio, CIRV FM, Rádio Luso Canadá, Rádio Sons de Portugal, Camões TV, CMCTV, FPTV, Gente da Nossa TV, and OMNI TV) and five in Quebec (Voz de Portugal, LusoPresse, Rádio Centre-Ville, LusaQTV, and Montreal TV Magazine).
The two previous editions of this initiative took place on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira in the Azores, as well as in the cities of Fall River and New Bedford in the United States, in May and October 2022, respectively.

The previous editions resulted in the creation of ADMA – Azores Diaspora Media Alliance, a platform for cooperation between media outlets in the Azores and North America, which is coordinated by the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute at California State University.
The meeting now being promoted in Canada aims to create a space for debate on common challenges faced by the media in the Azores and their communities, stimulating the exchange of information and experiences to promote the Region, its culture, and its potential.
The Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, established within the organizational structure of the 14th Government of the Azores, has its own responsibilities in the media field.
