The Socialist Party candidate for mayor of Ponta Delgada, Isabel Almeida Rodrigues, proposes a firm and structural response to the problem of affordable housing in the municipality, making the right of families to live with dignity a priority.
“Housing is a fundamental right. We cannot continue to ignore the difficulties that so many families face in finding a home with decent conditions and at prices they can afford,” said the socialist candidate.
To address this challenge, Isabel Almeida Rodrigues proposes the creation of the “Ponta Delgada Habita” program, whose main objective will be to increase the supply of housing at controlled costs, based on the rehabilitation of vacant properties belonging to the State, the Autonomous Region of the Azores, and the municipality itself.
“These properties will be renovated and made available for affordable rent, with fair and transparent criteria,” she said.
In addition to urban rehabilitation, the PS candidate also aims to establish a bank of municipal land for the construction of social housing, in collaboration with public and private entities. This proposal will allow the municipality to “strategically plan the housing response, ensuring sufficient supply, well located and with good accessibility.”
“This is not a new problem, but it has been getting worse. It is up to the City Council to lead this transformation, with concrete projects that reach people and their real needs. Ponta Delgada must be a city where everyone can live with dignity,” argued the PS candidate for the City Council of Ponta Delgada, Isabel Almeida Rodrigues.
