
In May 2025, 1,048.61 tons of fish were unloaded at auction in the Azores, representing a year-on-year decrease of 13.4%, according to data released by the Azores Regional Statistics Service (SREA). The total value of sales amounted to approximately €4.07 million, a decrease of 5.5% compared to the same month last year. According to the SREA, of the total landed, 1,040.22 tons were fish (99.2%), accounting for 97.2% of the value generated. The average price of fish stood at €3.88 per kilogram, an increase of 9.2% compared to May 2024, although this represented a 37.6% decrease compared to the previous month. More than 60% of landings were made on the island of São Miguel, which also accounted for approximately half (51.1%) of the total sales value. Corvo stood out with the highest average price, at €13.91 per kilo, well above the regional average. Despite the annual decrease, the volume of fish landed increased by 124.2% compared to April 2025. However, the trend over the last 12 months indicates an average decline of 15% in the volume of landings, while the average monthly value decreased by 7% over the same period.
