The Mayor of Praia da Vitória, Vânia Ferreira, participated in the ceremony commemorating the 23rd anniversary of Lajes’ elevation to Vila, which took place on the 12th.
In her speech, the mayor of Praia da Vitória highlighted the social, economic, and cultural significance of Vila das Lajes within the local, regional, and national contexts.

“The history of Vila das Lajes is made up of resistance and solidarity. It is made up of men and women who have been able to adapt to a world in constant change, without ever losing sight of the values that define the character of this land: hospitality, work, faith and perseverance. Today, as we look to the future, it is essential that we recognize the crucial role that Vila das Lajes plays in the balanced development of Praia da Vitória and Terceira Island itself. Let’s honor this legacy by focusing on valuing its historical heritage, encouraging young people, defending its traditions and strengthening its economic centrality,” he stressed, calling on the population of Lajes to persist in the dynamism that characterizes the area.
