From August 10 to 17, 2025, Terceira Island will host the 39th edition of Folk Azores – International Folklore Festival of the Azores, the largest folklore event in Europe this year. With the support of the Angra do Heroísmo City Council, the festival will bring together international and national groups in a true meeting of cultures and traditions.
Groups from Argentina, Austria, Colombia, Ecuador, Slovakia, Spain, the United States of America, the Philippines, France, Greece, Latvia, Mexico, Romania, and Serbia will participate, as well as representatives from the Azores and mainland Portugal.
The international galas will take place at the Teatro Angrense on August 12, 13, and 14, with tickets costing €3. On August 16 and 17, the Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Sports Pavilion will host two separate shows, with tickets priced at €8 on Saturday and €10 on Sunday.
The ethnographic parade through the streets of Angra do Heroísmo on August 15 promises to be one of the festival’s highlights. At the same time, the exhibition “Folklore of the World” will be on display at the Town Hall, and the 19th Handicraft and Traditional Flavors Fair will take place at the Bailão venue, with entertainment provided by local groups.

According to Guido Teles, Vice-President of the Angra do Heroísmo Municipal Council, “Folk Azores is a celebration of cultural diversity that strengthens ties between peoples and enriches our city with color, tradition, and humanity. It is with great pride that Angra do Heroísmo once again welcomes this great meeting of cultures.”
