
In June 2025, fishing activity in the Azores experienced significant growth, with 1,696.8 tons of fish landed at auction, representing a 70.2% increase compared to the same month last year and a 61.8% increase compared to May.
The total value of fish caught reached €6.0 million, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 45.9% and a monthly increase of 47.2%. Despite the increase in volume, the average price of fish fell to € 3.53 per kilo, representing a 14.3% decrease compared to June 2024 and a 9.0% decrease compared to the previous month.
Most of the captures were fish, totaling 1,642.9 tons, representing 96.8% of the total volume and 86.8% of the value, which amounted to 5.19 million euros. Mollusks totaled 51.8 tons (3.1% of the volume and 12.7% of the value), with a total of 759,700 euros, while crustaceans totaled 2.1 tons (0.1% of the volume and 0.5% of the value), corresponding to 32,300 euros.
The island of São Miguel stood out as the main contributor to landings, with 948.6 tons (55.9% of the total) and 2.72 million euros (45.5% of the value). Santa Maria was the second island with the highest volume, with 452.1 tons (26.6%) and 872,200 euros (14.6%). Pico recorded 101.1 tons and 577,700 euros (6.0% and 9.7%, respectively), followed by Terceira with 83.1 tons and 730,500 euros (4.9% and 12.2%), São Jorge with 55.3 tons and 338,600 euros (3.3% and 5.7%), Faial with 30.6 tons and 398,700 euros (1.8% and 6.7%), Graciosa with 13.8 tons and 173,100 euros (0.8% and 2.9%), Flores with 10.4 tons and 145,800 euros (0.6% and 2.4%) and, finally, Corvo with 1.8 tons and 25,900 euros (0.1% of the volume and 0.4% of the total value).
In terms of average prices per kilo, Corvo had the highest value, at 14.61 euros/kg, followed by Flores with 14.04 euros/kg, Faial with 13.04 euros/kg, Graciosa with 12.57 euros/kg, and Terceira with 8.79 euros/kg.
The islands with the lowest prices were São Jorge (€6.12/kg), Pico (€5.71/kg), São Miguel (€2.87/kg), and Santa Maria (€1.93/kg).
In the second quarter of 2025, the total amount of fish landed in the Azores was 3,213.1 tons, a decrease of 9.1% compared to the same period in 2024. Despite the drop in volume, the total value reached €13.0 million, representing a 1.5% increase. The average price per kilo rose 11.6% compared to the second quarter of the previous year, showing a higher value for fish traded in the archipelago.
