Food consumption in large retail outlets in the Azores recorded year-on-year growth of 8.35% at constant prices and 11.18% at current prices in June 2025, according to data released by the Azores Regional Statistics Service (SREA).

These figures confirm a positive trend that has been growing since the beginning of the year, reflecting increased demand in the food retail sector.

The Food Retail Sales Index (IVCR-PA), measured in both gross and deflated values, shows a quarterly year-over-year increase of 13.12%, as well as a monthly year-over-year variation of 8.35%. The average for the last 12 months, also in real terms, now stands at 8.54%, the highest figure in the series that began in June 2024.

Adjusted for calendar and seasonal effects, the index shows a monthly year-on-year variation of 10.12% and an average variation over the last 12 months of 9.02%. The monthly variation, in this case, was 1.07%, showing some stability in consumption behavior.

At current prices, the figures are even more significant. The monthly year-on-year variation was 11.18% and the average variation over the last 12 months reached 11.36%, maintaining a growth trajectory since the end of 2024. In the quarter ending in June, the year-on-year variation reached 15.56%, illustrating the strong dynamism of sales in nominal terms.

According to SREA, these indices are based on the Monthly Survey of Turnover and Employment in Retail Trade, focusing on large commercial areas in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. The data help to measure the evolution of the retail market in the food sector and serve as a barometer for analyzing the behavior of Azorean household consumption.
