Azores Airlines reported yesterday that following a bomb threat on board flight S4 504, connecting Ponta Delgada and Bilbao, the captain activated the security protocol and diverted the flight to Lisbon Airport, where it landed safely at around 12:00 p.m.
Following established protocol, the aircraft was taken to an isolated and secure area, allowing passengers and crew to disembark calmly and safely. The threat was not validated by competent authorities after a thorough inspection of the aircraft and its contents.
Following this false alarm, after the passengers were interviewed by the authorities, two of them were detained for questioning on suspicion of responsibility for communicating the threat, according to a statement issued by the SATA group.
Azores Airlines, in a statement, reaffirms that passenger safety is its absolute priority and regrets any inconvenience this situation may have caused, but to which it is completely unrelated. The impact on yesterday’s operations, as described in a statement from the Azorean airline, was limited to the flight to/from Bilbao, with the rest of the operations continuing as planned.
