Last weekend, the Association of Azorean Emigrants celebrated the fifth anniversary of Praça do Emigrante (Emigrant Square). The square is a true tribute to all Azoreans who left for the four corners of the world in search of better living conditions, but who never lost touch with their origins, as was later seen with the call of other family members to lands with different opportunities, or even with their return to their homeland, bringing wealth and investment.

Throughout the weekend, cultural and gastronomic activities took center stage at Praça do Emigrante, with Sunday afternoon reserved to pay tribute to the people and entities that made Praça do Emigrante possible.

The Ribeira Grande City Council, along with other entities and individuals, was honored by the Association of Azorean Emigrants with a plaque that was then placed on the existing tribute wall at the site.

The Vice-President of the Ribeira Grande City Council, Carlos Anselmo, attended the ceremony commemorating the fifth anniversary of Praça do Emigrante.
