The municipality of Vila do Porto is preparing a cultural itinerary on cereal farming in Santa Maria, which consists of creating an interpretive circuit on the bread cycle.
The project, which should be implemented before the high tourist season of 2026, is called “Os Caminhos do Pão” (The Paths of Bread), created by Paulo Ramalho, and consists of an interpretive circuit on the bread cycle, on an itinerary through the municipality of Vila do Porto, with stops at specific locations, where bilingual panels will be installed, using QR codes where appropriate to access further information.
The mayor, Bárbara Chaves, emphasizes that the itinerary will enhance the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Santa Maria, while also providing opportunities for experts and researchers residing on the island to carry out research and raise awareness of the ancient routes linked to bread production.
