On the 7th of August, as part of the Semana do Mar Festival (Sea Week), Triangle Day was celebrated. This is an initiative that highlighted the joint potential of the islands of Faial, Pico, and São Jorge. “Celebrating Triangle Day is celebrating the geographical proximity between these magnificent islands, but it is also praising the connection between our populations and projecting the enormous potential that these three islands have to offer when they come together,” said Carlos Ferreira, Mayor of Horta, during the ceremony, according to a press release.
For the Mayor, “the sea that separates us is also the sea that unites us,” and he therefore argued that “cooperation between São Jorge, Pico, and Faial is the key to transforming challenges into opportunities.” “When we combine resources, knowledge, and strategies, we enhance our ability to establish the Triangle as a hub for economic, tourist, and cultural development in the Azores and the country,” he noted. According to the local authority, “the initiative showcased the best products of the islands—cheeses, honeys, wines, and other products of excellence—reinforcing their value as drivers of regional and national economic growth, based on a shared vision for the future.”
This year, Triangle Day had already been celebrated in Pico in July and in São Jorge in June, with similar cultural, gastronomic, and tourist initiatives promoted by the Association of Municipalities of the Triangle Islands of the archipelago.
