The PS candidate for mayor of Machico proposes to strengthen the municipality’s support for university students in the city, not only in terms of granting scholarships, but also by providing transportation assistance for those who study outside the region.
Hugo Marques recalls that it was with the PS at the helm of Machico City Council that students began to receive properly regulated municipal financial support, thus guaranteeing important assistance for what is an investment in their future.
However, recognizing that the current challenges are greater, particularly with the increase in the cost of living and problems in accessing housing, which exacerbate the difficulties of those studying abroad, the socialist considers it essential that the municipality strengthen its support and thus give some breathing space to family budgets.
As Hugo Marques explains, the aim is to review the program’s regulations, creating a new level of support—from the current three to four—which will allow all university students in the municipality to have access to a scholarship.
In addition, the PS candidate for mayor of Machico intends to support students studying at universities on the mainland or in the Azores by ensuring the payment of one trip per year.
“With these measures, we reaffirm our clear commitment: to invest in the education of young people in Machico, ensuring that no one is left behind in access to higher education,” says Hugo Marques, emphasizing the importance of training for development and for guaranteeing better future opportunities for them.
