CTT (Portuguese Postal Service) has decided to suspend the transport of shipments containing goods to the US in all mail products, universal service parcels, and international express parcels, effective today.
“On July 30, 2025, the US president issued an Executive Order suspending the De Minimis exemption for all countries, effective August 29, 2025. This measure eliminates the tariff exemption, directly affecting international postal flows. Consequently, all shipments to the US will be subject to customs duties from that date,“ the company explained in a press release.
According to CTT, ”technical instructions provided by the US authorities on August 15 determined that shipping customers will now have to pay customs duties before shipments can be transported to the US.”
“The details of the new requirements have not yet been fully clarified by US customs authorities and will require operational adjustments by postal companies worldwide,” the company added.
CTT guarantees that every effort is being made “to implement the necessary changes to ensure the provision of goods shipping services to the US in all shipping modes.”
However, until the necessary measures are implemented, shipments containing goods to the US will only be guaranteed through the International Premium express product, which allows shipments of up to 30 kg with collection and delivery at the most convenient location, with the fees borne by the recipients.
Shipments to the US containing only documents will not be affected by this measure. Shipments containing goods are only possible through the Premium service.
