The City Council of Ponta Delgada, led by Mayor Pedro Nascimento Cabral, has invested €8.8 million in culture, promoting and supporting more than 3,000 cultural events between 2021 and 2025. “The official data clearly and unequivocally demonstrate the municipality’s ongoing commitment to the cultural enhancement of the municipality,” says the Mayor of Ponta Delgada, highlighting that investment in culture will increase next year with the celebration of Ponta Delgada – Portuguese Capital of Culture. Financial investment in culture is “consistent and growing” and “reveals the municipality’s significant effort to support cultural production, heritage, and the revitalization of the territory,” says Pedro Nascimento Cabral.
In the context of cultural decentralization, around 1,500 initiatives were carried out in the 24 parishes, including activities in the cultural centers of Santo António and Fenais da Luz, the Natália Correia Center, and the Santa Clara Civic Center. It is also important to highlight the permanent logistical and institutional support for promoting cultural activities in the 24 parishes of the municipality of Ponta Delgada. It is also worth mentioning the commitments made with the municipal company “Coliseu Micaelense E.M., S.A.” and the projects submitted for the European Capital of Culture and Portuguese Capital of Culture awards. The Municipality of Ponta Delgada thus highlights its commitment to culture as a strategic axis of human and territorial development. “The commitment made is clear, solid, and sustainable, ensuring access, participation, and decentralization of cultural offerings for residents and visitors,” says the Mayor of Ponta Delgada. Pedro Nascimento Cabral concludes that “Culture in Ponta Delgada is built on investment, action, and visible results.
The evidence is public, documented, and reflects the seriousness with which this area has been treated by the current municipal executive, noting that ”these investments reach thousands of people“ and that ”culture has contributed to local economic dynamism, attracting visitors, supporting local commerce, and reinforcing the identity of our municipality.”
