The Regional Government of the Azores has authorized SATA Air Açores to take out two new loans totaling €40 million. The decision was published yesterday in the Official Journal, through two orders: one for €31.5 million and another for €8.5 million.
Last week, Correio dos Açores reported that the SATA Group had secured an additional loan of €15 million to bolster its cash position.
According to our newspaper, these financing operations are backed by a €75 million guarantee granted by the Regional Government of the Azores.
The measure was authorized by the Government Council on July 25 and is part of the “emergency aid” granted by the Republic to the Autonomous Region, approved by the European Commission in 2022, to enable the restructuring process of the Azorean airline.
According to Resolution No. 107/2025, SATA Air Açores is authorized to negotiate financing with banks or other financial institutions, up to a limit of €75 million, with guarantees provided by the regional executive.
