The Portuguese Navy, through the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Delgada), in conjunction with the Port Captain of Ponta Delgada and the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA), coordinated a medical rescue last Thursday a medical rescue of a 79-year-old American woman who allegedly suffered an aneurysm on board the cruise ship Regal Princess, near the port of Ponta Delgada. The Bermuda-flagged cruise ship, which was sailing about 20 nautical miles, or about 37 kilometers, from the port of Ponta Delgada, alerted MRCC Delgada at 7:30 p.m.. A vessel (SR46) from the Ponta Delgada Lifeboat Station (ESV), with three crew members on board, was immediately activated to carry out the medical rescue. The rescue of the victim was completed, and he was subsequently transported to a local hospital. The MRCC Delgada, the Port Captain of Ponta Delgada, an SR46 from the ESV of Ponta Delgada, and the SRPCBA were involved in the operation.
