The Municipality of Velas de São Jorge, in conjunction with the governing bodies of Sociedade União Rosalense, carried out renovation work on the institution’s headquarters building, culminating 12 years of work by President Luís Silveira, at the helm of the Municipality of Velas, which included the renovation of the headquarters of the municipality’s seven philharmonic bands. This was the solution found to contribute to the maintenance of our architectural heritage while providing better conditions for all those who benefit from these spaces for cultural and recreational activities.

“But no less important was the signal it sent, as a symbol of gratitude to all those who give up their time for the public good to maintain these institutions, whether they be their directors, musicians, or even their families and members. We are a culturally rich municipality, and this richness is mainly reflected in our seven philharmonic bands, which now, after having their headquarters buildings renovated, which immediately provides them with more and better conditions for the development of their activities, will certainly see greater investment in the training of musicians, instruments, among other things…”, reads the published note.

Mr. Batista Vieira, a prominent Azorean entrepreneur and broadcaster in California, has been a very generous donor to this and many projects in São Jorge.
