The Socialist Party councilors elected by the Unidos por Ponta Delgada coalition reiterated their willingness to analyze all proposals that serve the municipality’s development, emphasizing that their actions will continue to be guided by the defense of the population’s interests and a sense of political responsibility.

“The PS has maintained a stance of openness and constructive dialogue. We are willing to analyze all proposals that promote the development of Ponta Delgada and improve the quality of life of our citizens and, above all, to enforce proposals that are in our Program and that we believe can contribute greatly to a better municipality,” said Rui Melo, on behalf of the socialist councilors.

The mayor added that the PS is willing to reach agreements that will allow the Municipal Budget to be approved, “as long as it reflects the true priorities of the municipality and its people.” “We want balanced, fair, and sustainable solutions for Ponta Delgada,” he emphasized.

Rui Melo stressed that the party “is immune to any war that could be counterproductive” and that the actions of the socialist councilors “will be driven by the present and future of Ponta Delgada.”

“We take the stance of awareness and responsibility necessary in this new paradigm, aware that what drives us is our commitment to the citizens of Ponta Delgada. We are always open to responsible and constructive dialogue, which allows the municipality to move forward with balance and common sense. What guides us is the common good and not the personal ambition of anyone,” he said.

The councilman also highlighted the PS’s history of responsibility in Ponta Delgada, recalling that the party “has always acted in a coherent and constructive manner, regardless of the correlation of political forces.”

“Even when our vote was not decisive, as it is now, we voted in favor whenever we believed that the proposals were good for the citizens. At this moment, when we are the linchpin, when no single force represented in the executive will be able to approve its proposals without the agreement of the PS, we reinforce our sense of responsibility and reiterate our commitment to the uncompromising defense of the citizens who live and work in the municipality of Ponta Delgada,” concluded Rui Melo.

Ponta Delgada is by far the largest municipality on the Azores.
