The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, met today with the Board of Directors of the Terceira Island Health Unit (USIT), where she announced that the coverage rate for family doctors on the island is 92%, exceeding 90% for the first time.
On this occasion, the minister presided over a ceremony to sign contracts with three doctors specializing in General and Family Medicine—two of whom will go to Praia da Vitória, which will have 94% coverage, and one will stay in Angra do Heroísmo, where the rate is now 90%.
“We currently have 12 interns in training, two of whom will finish in 2026. We want to deal with the competitive selection process quickly, and later this year we will open another process for an intern who finished last week,” said Mónica Seidi.
The Regional Secretary also highlights the increase in healthcare activity on Terceira, with advances in medical consultations, nursing consultations, physiotherapy sessions, and X-ray examinations.
Under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the minister also stressed that 17 vehicles will be purchased for the USIT, in an investment of close to one million euros, with a view to improving local care.
