An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale was felt today on Terceira Island in the Azores, without causing personal injury or material damage, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

Four earthquakes with magnitudes between 1.8 and 3.0 on the Richter scale were felt on Tuesday on Terceira Island, as part of the ongoing seismic-volcanic crisis, according to the Azores Seismic-Volcanic Information and Surveillance Center (CIVISA).

According to CIVISA, the tremors were recorded between 2:06 a.m. and 10:12 a.m. local time on Tuesday (one hour later in Lisbon) and were felt in the municipalities of Praia da Vitória and Angra do Heroísmo.

The first earthquake occurred at 02:06 (with a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale and an epicenter about four kilometers east of Serreta) and the second at 02:31 (magnitude 2.1 and epicenter about three kilometers east of Serreta).

The third tremor was recorded at 02:37 (magnitude 1.8 and epicenter about four kilometers east of Serreta) and the fourth at 10:12 (magnitude 2.4 and epicenter about five kilometers south of Altares).

CIVISA reports that the earthquakes were felt with maximum intensities of III, III/IV, IV, and IV/V (Modified Mercalli scale) in the two municipalities of Terceira Island (Praia da Vitória and Angra do Heroísmo).
