The Mayor of Horta, Carlos Ferreira, attended the 7th Gala of the Horta Football Association (AFH), in a moment of celebration and recognition that marked the 95th anniversary of “this historic institution, which since 1930 has played a central role in promoting and consolidating football on the islands of Faial, Pico, Flores, and Corvo.”
At the commemorative session held at the Faialense Theater, the mayor of Faial emphasized that “for almost a century, the Horta Football Association has been a remarkable example of dedication, unity, and passion for the sport, and a vehicle for promoting talent, team spirit, and the values that make this sport much more than just a sport, but a true factor of identity and cohesion among our islands.”
Carlos Ferreira also stressed that “the City Council and the Horta Football Association share a true partnership, based on common values and objectives, such as the appreciation of sport as a school of life, the formation of citizens of integrity, and the promotion of healthy and supportive habits, especially among young people.”

Aware of this importance, the Faialense Local Authority has sought to be an active and committed partner in promoting and supporting sport, which mobilizes hundreds of young people and families across the island.
“This attitude is intended to represent a clear commitment to a more active, healthier, and more cohesive society, where sport continues to be a fundamental pillar of human and community development,” he said.
In closing, the Mayor of Horta greeted and thanked the institutions and citizens honored, emphasizing the dedication, entrepreneurship, effort, and community spirit of all those who contribute daily to the growth and vitality of sports in the region.
