The Mayor of Lajes do Pico, Ana Brum, visited the European Parliament in Brussels on November 5 at the invitation of Azorean Socialist MEP André Franqueira Rodrigues.
During the visit, Ana Brum had the opportunity to visit the Hemicycle, considered the heart of European democracy, where Members of the European Parliament meet in plenary sessions to discuss and vote on matters that are fundamental to the future of the European Union and the daily lives of its citizens. This emblematic space hosts some of the most relevant political debates at the European level, as well as historic votes that shape common policies.

The European Parliament offers free guided tours in any of the 24 official languages of the European Union, allowing visitors to better understand its functions and powers. Accessibility is guaranteed for people with disabilities, with advance booking only required for groups.
For the Mayor of Lajes do Pico, this trip represented a unique opportunity for direct contact with one of the most important political institutions in the world, reinforcing knowledge about European decision-making processes that also influence the Azorean and local reality. Ana Brum also expressed her gratitude for the invitation and for MEP André Franqueira Rodrigues’ availability, highlighting the importance of dialogue between local authorities and Azorean representatives in European bodies.
