
Until this Sunday, Casa do Povo de Santa Cruz, on Madeira Island is organizing the 12th edition of the Sons e Sabores da Madeira (Sounds and Flavors of Madeira) event at Praça Padre Gabriel Olavo Garcês in Santa Cruz. The initiative promises three days filled with music, gastronomy, and Madeiran traditions.
Five local restaurants will offer visitors a diverse gastronomic experience, including cooking demonstrations, sweet tastings, cocktails, and wines. The event will also feature six stalls selling handmade products and other regional delicacies.
Musical entertainment will be provided by regional groups, featuring performances by D’Repente, Sons da Tradição, Tangederos do Atlântico, Banda D’Além, and Madeira Despique Gente Antiga, with styles ranging from folklore to fado.
The event is supported by the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fisheries, the City Council, and the Parish Council of Santa Cruz, and is co-financed by PRODERAM 2020. It also has partnerships with several local companies.
The event will be presented by Carlos Pereira, technician from the Division of Rural Promotion and Enhancement, and Délia Pombo. For those who are unable to attend in person, the program will be broadcast live on the social networks of Casa do Povo de Santa Cruz, Eduardo Costa Produções, and YouTube.
The detailed program includes, on Friday, the 14th, the official opening with the Regional Anthem and performances by the Folklore Group of Casa do Povo de Santa Cruz, Madeira Despique Gente Antiga, D’Gêpênta, and Tuna D’Elas. On Saturday, the 15th, highlights include demonstrations of traditional sweets, show cooking with chef Mário Faria, and performances by 4Acordes, HELD Além, Tangederos do Atlântico, and TUMA – Tuna Universitária da Madeira.
