The Praia da Vitória City Council was awarded the “Autarquia + Familiarmente Responsável 2025-2026” (Most Family-Friendly Local Authority 2025-2026) prize by the Observatório das Autarquias Familiarmente Responsáveis (OAFR) in recognition of the family support policies developed in the municipality. The award was presented to the Mayor, Vânia Ferreira, on Wednesday, the 19th, at a ceremony held at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra.

“This award is national recognition for the path we are taking with families, in areas that we consider essential to local social development, both in terms of municipal support and the programs and strategies developed,” emphasizes the mayor of Praia.

The award recognizes the contribution of the measures included in the Integrated Local Strategy to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion and in the Local Strategy for Housing – 1st Right for the daily life of families in the municipality, as well as municipal support for renting and access to housing.

In the field of education, she highlights the impact, for example, of the Jovens em Ação (Youth in Action) and Casa Farol (Lighthouse House) projects, as drivers of social integration and skills development in the youth community.

“The award also covers the social tariff implemented by Praia Ambiente and recognizes the increases in support that the municipality has been promoting in recent years for social needs in the municipality, with a view to improving the living conditions of families,” emphasizes Vânia Ferreira.

“In recent years, we have been developing various measures, which have been recognized by the Observatory. Receiving this award year after year shows that we are on the right track,” stresses the Mayor of Praia da Vitória.

The OAFR awards this prize annually, taking into account the work carried out by local authorities over the previous year, based on the implementation of measures that contribute to a cohesive social fabric and ensure generational renewal and territorial sustainability. This is the mission of the OAFR.
