The Judicial Police (PJ), through the Azores Criminal Investigation Unit, confirms the arrest of a 63-year-old woman “strongly suspected of committing a homicide” in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo on November 24. The victim is the suspect’s 50-year-old brother.
According to a statement released by the PJ, “the events originated in a family altercation, associated with chronic and excessive alcohol consumption by those involved.”
The investigation found that, during the confrontation, the detainee “struck the victim in the abdominal region with a sharp instrument.” The man received assistance at the scene and was transported to a hospital, but he died hours later as a result of his injuries.
After four days of psychiatric hospitalization, the woman was brought before the judicial authorities and was remanded in custody.
