The distinction took place at the ODSlocal’25 Conference, “reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals,” according to a statement from the local authority. The ODSlocal certification recognizes the work of municipalities that have adopted the advanced version of SDG integration and monitoring in theirlocal public policies.

Angra do Heroísmo stood out for the scale, diversity, and consistency of its initiatives, with a total of 38 actions classified as good practices, a number considered extraordinary by the organization, according to the text sent to us.

CONCRETE PROJECTS

These include social and intergenerational support projects, such as the “Large Families” and “Senior” Cards, the Home Workshop, Teleassistance, the Milk and Cheese Route, the Municipal Youth Council, the Municipal Education Council, the Participatory Budget of Angra do Heroísmo, the “Âncora” project, “Haja Saúde” and “AMA – Aldeia da Parentalidade,” among many others.

According to the text sent to us, nine other projects were also recognized, “highlighting the excellence and innovative nature of the work carried out in the municipality”: “Agrupamento 717 Inovar,” “AzoresSmartIslands,” “3G – Geotourism, Geoeducation, and Geoconservation,” “Life IP Azores Natura,” “Feed Your Future” Campaign, CATL “Porta Alegre,” Ecovia, and Centro Porta Amiga.

“This distinction validates the path we have been building, recognizing the commitment of all those who contribute to a more positive municipal action in line with the Sustainable Development Goals,” said the mayor of Angra do Heroísmo.

“We know, however,” added Fátima Amorim, “that there is still much work to be done and we will remain firmly committed to ODSlocal – Municipal Platform for Sustainable Development Goals.”
