The Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo inaugurated an exhibition of 22 Christmas trees created by the municipality’s Social Centers at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Saúde (Praça Velha) to celebrate creativity and promote active aging.
The exhibition brings together unique pieces designed by the elderly, made from a variety of materials. Each tree was the result of a collective process that promoted socializing, sharing memories, and valuing the manual and artistic skills of the participants.
The exhibition, which is free to enter, invites the public to appreciate the talent and dedication of Angra’s senior citizens, and is one of several activities that make up the municipality’s Christmas program.
At the same time, on December 1, the Christmas Choir of the Social Centers made its debut. The choir is made up of seniors who, over the last few weeks, prepared a musical repertoire that celebrated the spirit of the season. The initiative, which brought the community together in an atmosphere of affection and tradition, marked another step in the consolidation of cultural and social projects aimed at the senior population.
According to Fátima Amorim, Mayor of Angra do Heroísmo: “Throughout the year, we have developed projects aimed at promoting active aging and civic participation among our seniors. These initiatives have shown that age is no barrier to creating, sharing, and inspiring. At Christmas, this involvement takes on even greater significance, as it strengthens bonds, combats isolation, and promotes quality of life in our municipality.”
