The municipality continues to promote “Velas, Capital of Cheese,” this time by participating in Xantar – International Gastronomic Tourism Fair, in Spain, as part of a partnership with the Angra do Heroísmo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, through the Promotur 2426 project.

The Mayor, Catarina Cabeceiras, emphasizes that this participation represents much more than gastronomic promotion: “It is about affirming Velas on the international scene, valuing the authenticity of our products and strengthening the positioning of the Municipality and the Island of São Jorge as a leading tourist and gastronomic destination.”

With this presence, the municipality reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting the municipality beyond its borders, consolidating the brand “Velas, Capital of Cheese” and projecting what truly distinguishes the territory.

The Xantar fair is recognized as the only international gastronomic tourism event in the Iberian Peninsula, bringing together destinations and products of excellence from Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.

Velas is one of the two municipalities on the island of São Jorge, Azores.
