The Noble Hall-Salão Nobre, in the Municipality of Praia da Vitória, celebrated the 83rd anniversary of the Terceira Island Historical Institute on Tuesday evening, the 9th.
In her remarks, the Councilwoman of the Municipality of Praia da Vitória, Paula Sousa, reflected on the institution’s trajectory and emphasized both its importance and the contemporary urgency of its mission—“in a time when memories find themselves threatened by the sanitization and uniformity of thought.”
“In the times we are living through, when the rewriting of memory and history has become commonplace, we must highlight the role of the Historical Institute, offering it as an example of the pressing need to strengthen institutions and projects that safeguard our collective memories, expand our understanding of history, and ultimately stand as beacons of knowledge and scientific truth,” Paula Sousa noted.
On this occasion, the councilwoman reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment and readiness to carry forward partnerships and projects dedicated to safeguarding and preserving local memory, history, culture, and identity.
