The Municipal Council of Angra do Heroísmo was elected this week, at a General Assembly, to assume the vice-presidency of GRATER for the 2026–2027 biennium. The position will be held by Fátima Amorim, President of the Municipality.
The election follows the rotation system established between the municipalities of Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória, which until now had held the presidency and vice-presidency, respectively. With this change, Angra reinforces its commitment to the local development strategy led by GRATER, an association founded in 1995 and responsible for promoting the sustainable use of resources in the municipalities of Angra do Heroísmo, Praia da Vitória, and Santa Cruz da Graciosa.
GRATER brings together municipalities along with various public and private entities, operating under the principles of the LEADER approach, which emphasizes local capacity-building, the mobilization of territorial stakeholders, and the efficient use of endogenous resources. Over the years, it has played a central role in the economic, social, and cultural revitalization of rural communities, as well as in securing decisive external funding for the implementation of strategic projects.
“The Municipal Council of Angra do Heroísmo is deeply committed to all the institutions of which it is a part. In the case of GRATER, it is an essential entity for the municipality’s development, as it works daily to advance its area of intervention at both the rural and coastal levels. We fully recognize the importance of its mission and will work with complete dedication in the vice-presidency during the upcoming biennium,” stated Fátima Amorim, President of the Municipal Council of Angra do Heroísmo.
