The ocean patrol vessel NRP Sines, of the Marinha Portuguesa, carried out on Sunday, December 21, the transport of approximately 850 kilograms of essential goods to the island of Pico, in the Azores.
The initiative, part of the solidarity campaign “A Gesture, A Change,” aimed to support the Obra Social Madre Maria Clara and the children in situations of social vulnerability assisted by this institution.
Currently deployed in the Azores Maritime Zone, the patrol vessel ensured the sea connection between São Miguel and Pico, delivering a total of 500 kg of food, 150 kg of clothing, 50 kg of hygiene products, and 150 kg of toys. The delivery operation was also supported by the Capitania do Porto da Horta, ensuring that the donations reached families during the Christmas season.
Through this action, the Portuguese Navy emphasized in a statement that it is strengthening its commitment to social cohesion and direct support for local populations, reaffirming its dedication to deepening bonds of proximity with the communities of the archipelago—through means that go beyond its strictly military mission.
