An open, informal conversation about the literary legacy of Álamo Oliveira is proposed by the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive (BPARLSR) on January 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Álamo Oliveira Library, located at the Raminho Parish Council.
The initiative is part of the reading club Folhas de Quinta. Members of the public are invited to take part by sharing their own reflections, memories, and interpretations of the poet’s extensive body of work.
According to a statement sent to Diário Insular by BPARLSR, the event celebrates Álamo Oliveira’s humanist vision. As noted by Diniz Borges in the preface to O Meu Coração É Assim, Oliveira was a keen observer of life and of his time.
“Guided by the principle that art must serve humanity, his writing becomes the starting point for a collective conversation about the human condition, its anxieties, and the beauty of our land,” the note states.
In parallel, the Raminho Parish Council is organizing a series of meetings with individuals who, in one way or another, crossed paths with Álamo Oliveira. The first of these encounters has already taken place and brought university professor Álamo Meneses to the Álamo Oliveira Library, where he was interviewed by Andreia Fernandes.
Diário Insular has published part of that interview and will continue to feature excerpts from the remaining conversations as they are scheduled.
