The delegation from the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (ALRAA) took part today in the first day of the 10th Atlantic Parliamentary Conference, which is being held from February 5 to 7 in Praia, Cape Verde. The Azorean deputies were distributed among the four thematic Working Groups that marked the agenda of this initial day, contributing to the joint reflection on the challenges affecting the Atlantic island regions.
Working Group I, dedicated to the theme “Cooperation model for development and new challenges,” was attended by deputies Carlos Silva, from the PS Parliamentary Group, and Luís Raposo, from the PSD Parliamentary Group. Carlos Silva served as Rapporteur, responsible for systematizing and presenting the group’s conclusions.
Working Group II, on “Economic sustainability and connectivity,” included the participation of Marlene Damião, from the PS Parliamentary Group, and Paulo Gomes, from the PSD Parliamentary Group, who contributed to the debate on competitiveness, mobility, and interconnection between island territories.

Working Group III, dedicated to the theme “Energy, climate, and territorial resilience,” included Pedro Pinto, from the CDS-PP Parliamentary Group, and José Eduardo, from the PS Parliamentary Group, who analyzed issues related to energy policies, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the resilience of the outermost regions.
Working Group IV, focused on “Education, culture, and social welfare,” included João Bruto da Costa, Olivéria Santos from the CH Parliamentary Group, and João Mendonça from the PPM Parliamentary Representation. As chair of the group, João Bruto da Costa, from the PSD Parliamentary Group, presented the final conclusions of this working group in the Plenary Session.

The conclusions of the four groups were presented at the end of the afternoon, during the Plenary Session that closed the first day of the Conference. In this session, the main recommendations and priorities identified by the participants were presented, in an exercise of interparliamentary cooperation that sought to strengthen political coordination in the Atlantic area.
The involvement of the Azorean delegation in the work of the 10th Atlantic Parliamentary Conference demonstrates the ALRAA’s commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and to building joint responses to the challenges facing the island regions of Macaronesia and the Atlantic.
