The president of the Corvo City Council in the Azores warned on Tuesday of “severe problems” in the supply of goods to the island due to the absence of a cargo ship, saying the community is “at the limit” when it comes to essential items.
According to Mayor Marco Silva, the situation is marked by the “failure of supply vessels to dock on the island,” preventing the regular delivery of merchandise.
In a press release, the municipality stated that, “as was the case during the recent statutory visit [by the Azores Regional Government],” the mayor once again raised the alarm that Corvo is on the brink of running out of “basic essential goods.”
The mayor called for an “urgent response that ensures extraordinary or alternative supply solutions” to prevent further shortages.
Marco Silva also criticized what he described as the “waste of multiple opportunities,” noting that the problem once again went unresolved on Tuesday.
According to the mayor, there is a clear “inability on the part of regional authorities to resolve the issue of regular supply,” and he is demanding a “clear and decisive response to the critical problem of shortages of goods and services on the island.”
