
A collision involving two passenger vehicles near Vitorino Nemésio School in Praia da Vitória, on Terceira Island, resulted in one fatality and one person seriously injured late this morning.
The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m., in front of the school, when the impact between the vehicles led to two women—who were near a bus stop—being struck.
The victims, aged 60 and 65, sustained severe injuries. One of the women suffered multiple fractures to her lower limbs, while the other went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency response teams from the Praia da Vitória Fire Department attended the incident, deploying an ambulance and two Immediate Life Support (SIV) units. A total of eight personnel were involved in the rescue operation.
Officers from the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) were also on site, securing the area and initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
