This Wednesday, March 18, California State University, Fresno will host its annual Day of Giving, a campus-wide initiative that brings together students, alumni, and the broader community to support programs that make a difference.
For 24 hours, donations will be accepted in support of various areas across the university — including the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute.
The call is simple: all those who value the Portuguese presence at Fresno State are encouraged to contribute. The Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute continues to play a vital role in connecting the Azores, Portugal, and the Portuguese diaspora with new generations in California and beyond.
Its work spans a wide range of initiatives, from the Oral History Project, preserving the voices and memories of the community, to the Speaker and Lecture Series, which brings leading figures from the Lusophone world to campus. Community outreach platforms such as Novidades and Filamentos (arts & letters) further extend this cultural dialogue.
The institute also supports publishing efforts through Bruma Publications, promotes student exchanges, and sustains academic programs focused on Portuguese language and culture — including a minor in Portuguese.
At a time when the continuity and expansion of these programs depend on collective engagement, the Day of Giving offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute. Every donation helps ensure that Portuguese language, culture, and history remain a vibrant and lasting presence at Fresno State.
Donations can be made throughout the 24-hour campaign on March 18.
