Viviane Peixoto Hunter, president of the Casa dos Açores of the State of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, is set to launch her latest book, Patchwork of Memories – Women of the Atlantic: Woven Between Cloak and Cap, through a special tour spanning three islands of the Azorean archipelago. The events will take place on March 26 at Livraria Letras Lavadas in São Miguel at 6:00 p.m.; March 27 at Peter Café Sport on Faial at 6:00 p.m.; and March 28 at Lar Doce Livro on Terceira at 3:00 p.m.
Each gathering is conceived as a moment of sharing and celebration of literature and Atlantic identity, highlighting the stories of women who arrived, departed, or remained in the Azores—stitching together individual and collective experiences across the ocean.
The project emerges within the framework of Regional Ordinance 68/2008 of the Azores government and is published by Letras Lavadas. It brings together narratives that cross seas and generations. According to Viviane Peixoto Hunter, the aim is to preserve often-overlooked women’s memories, transforming them into a living narrative that strengthens cultural ties between Brazil and the Azorean islands.
“Between scraps of fabric, seams, sea journeys, and lived experiences, this work gathers the paths of women connected by the ocean that unites Brazil and the Azores,” the author explained, noting that each event offers audiences the opportunity to encounter stories shaped by migration, permanence, and achievement within the island context.
In addition to her work as an author, Viviane Peixoto Hunter serves as president of CAERGS and has built a distinguished career as a promoter of culture and education. She has become particularly recognized for her efforts to preserve historical memory and to elevate the role of women’s cultural heritage.
