professional association. The Capital CIO ORBIE Awards is the premier technology executive recognition program in Capital. The Capital CIO ORBIE Awards honors chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership.

CapitalCIO announced finalists for the 2026 Capital CIO ORBIE Awards, which recognizes the best-of-the-best in Capital technology leadership. Winners will be announced at the CIO ORBIE Awards on June 26, 2026 at the The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner, Virginia.

Lúcia Soares, Partner, Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Head of Tech Transformation at The Carlyle Group was named one of the six finalists for the CapitalCIO ORBIE Awards in the Global category. This category represents leaders whose organizations have over $2 billion dollars in annual revenue and multi-national operations. A daughter of Azorean immigrants and a native Californian, Lúcia graduated from San José State University with a Bachelor’s in Foreign Languages (distinction Summa Cum Laude) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master’s in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She also completed executive education in business at the

Harvard Business School. She started her professional career in high-tech consulting, worked at Johnson and Johnson for over 15 years in various executive roles including Vice President of Information Technology, VP of Healthcare Technology Strategy, and CIO. After serving as Managing Partner at Health2047, a venture studio founded by the American Medical Association that builds and backs earlystage companies on the cutting edge of transforming healthcare, she transitioned to The Carlyle Group, a global investment firm with deep industry expertise that deploys private capital across three business segments: Global Private Equity, Global Credit, and Carlyle AlpInvest. With $477 billion of assets under management (as of December

31, 2025), Carlyle’s purpose is to connect people, ideas, and capital to fuel growth for companies and performance for investors. Carlyle employs more than 2,500 people in 27 offices across four continents.

Currently, Lúcia also serves on the Boards of Hilb Group, a Top 25 middle market independent insurance broker headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, and Hexaware Technologies, a global technology and business process services company with headquarters in Navi Mumbai, India.

On her spare time, Lúcia volunteers at Portuguese-American community organizations such as the Five Wounds Portuguese National Parish in San José and she is an occasionally columnist for The Portuguese Tribune.
