The Mayor of Angra do Heroísmo, Álamo Meneses, presented a copy of the Bula Æquum reputamus, published by Pope Paul III, which established the Diocese of Angra in 1534, to the Treasury of the Cathedral of Angra this week.
The document was handed over to the museum treasury of the Cathedral of Angra in a ceremony presided over by Álamo Meneses. In addition to the museum space of the Cathedral, a copy of this document was also handed over to the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and another to the Museum of Angra do Heroísmo.
This was followed by a communication entitled “Brief considerations on the Bull of Foundation of the Diocese of Angra” by Canon João Maria Mendes, who provided a historical overview of the moment when the diocese of Angra separated from that of Funchal and how it established itself within the context of the Church.
