Over two days, FLAD (Luso-American Development Foundation) will bring together policymakers, researchers, diplomats, and think tank analysts from different countries and generations for a space of reflection on Portugal’s strategic positioning in the Atlantic and Europe. The initiative aims to bridge scientific knowledge with political and diplomatic experience, addressing topics such as security, defense, technological innovation, sustainability, international cooperation, and the growing importance of oceanic and space infrastructure.
Entitled “Azores: From Ocean to Space”, this conference marks the 30th anniversary of the U.S.–Portugal Defense and Cooperation Agreement and the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. It will also serve as an opportunity to reflect on the past and to project the present and future of the transatlantic relationship. This event is also part of the ongoing events that FLAD has been promoting to commemorate its 40th anniversary.
