Five groups were selected following the limited tender, based on prior qualification, for the contract for the “Madeira Central and University Hospital – Phase 3 – General Infrastructure, Finishes, and Technical Installations.” This decision was made by the Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure after analyzing the applications submitted for qualification by the jury, which prepared the final report for the qualification phase.

The selected groups will now proceed to the final phase of the tender and are invited to submit their bids within45 days.

For the Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, Pedro Rodrigues, this is a strategic step: “We have reached the final phase of the tender, a decisive stage that will allow us to ensure the start of the third and final phase of the construction of the new Central and University Hospital of Madeira under the responsibility of the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure. This is a fundamental step towards creating a modern hospital capable of responding to the needs of the population and establishing the Region as a benchmark in health. At this stage, the interconnection between the SREI, the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection, and the Mission Structure led by Dr. Pedro Ramos is essential for the project to be realized. And we are already taking the first steps in that direction.”

The base price for this third phase was €265,000,000.00, covering general infrastructure, finishes, and technical installations. Work is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026.

The final phase of this project will be the responsibility of the Regional Health Secretariat and will involve acquiring hospital equipment. The hospital is expected to be completed by the end of 2029, according to a government press release.
