The official lineup for the Novilhada do Ramo Grande has been unveiled, marking another milestone for an event that continues to strengthen its place on Terceira Island’s bullfighting calendar. Organized by the União Tauromáquica do Ramo Grande and integrated into the Cultural Week of Biscoitos, this year’s edition is being framed as one of the standout spectacles of the season.
Set for July 17 at the Monumental Bullring of Terceira Island, the event promises what organizers describe as a program of “undisputed excellence.” The lineup features several prominent figures, including rising star Miguel Moura, who is currently enjoying a strong moment in his career and is expected to deliver performances that will energize the crowd while honoring his family’s legacy in the sport.
Also returning is matador Ismael Martín, following what organizers called a “memorable triumph” at last year’s event. Known for his refined and technical style, Martín has earned the respect of Terceira’s demanding aficionados. Adding further prestige is the participation of the Grupo de Forcados Amadores de Lisboa, an 82-year-old institution widely regarded as an ambassador of the traditional art of bull handling.
New Agreement Strengthens Institutional Collaboration
Beyond the arena, a newly signed protocol between the Municipality of Praia da Vitória, the União Tauromáquica do Ramo Grande, the Tertúlia Tauromáquica, and the local forcados group is expected to deepen collaboration over the next four years. More than a formal agreement, organizers describe it as a framework for sustained cooperation.
Under the terms, the União Tauromáquica will take on a leading role in organizing key events during the iconic Festas da Praia da Vitória. This includes promoting rope bullfights in 2026 and 2028, as well as the main bullfighting events in 2027 and 2029. Local officials have framed the agreement as recognition of the organization’s growing credibility and track record.

A Young Organization with Growing Influence
Founded in 2021 by former members of the forcados Amadores do Ramo Grande, the União Tauromáquica has quickly established itself as both a logistical support network and a promoter of bullfighting culture on the island. Its mission extends beyond organizing events, focusing also on improving conditions for practitioners and developing a long-term strategy for the tradition’s sustainability in Praia da Vitória.
The Novilhada dos Biscoitos, in particular, has become a flagship initiative. Organizers point to increasing attendance and strong backing from local businesses as evidence that the event is on track to become a permanent fixture in the regional bullfighting calendar.

New Leadership Priorities
The organization’s leadership, renewed in 2025, has outlined a set of priorities centered on communication, community engagement, and infrastructure. Efforts are underway to strengthen the União Tauromáquica brand and create more opportunities for social interaction among aficionados.
A key goal is securing a permanent headquarters for the forcados group—an initiative seen as essential for hosting exhibitions, lectures, and youth engagement activities. The broader aim is to embed bullfighting more deeply into the social and economic life of the municipality, extending its presence beyond the arena.
Tradition, Economy, and Continuity
On Terceira Island, bullfighting remains both a cultural tradition and an economic driver. Organizers emphasize that the number of events held each year reflects not just heritage, but also a vibrant and resilient sector. The activity continues to attract investment, support tourism, and generate economic value.
While debates around bullfighting persist in broader contexts, within Terceira it continues to be viewed by its supporters as a defining expression of local identity—one that, for now, shows no signs of fading.
