The Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo held its traditional Luncheon in Honor of the Divine Holy Spirit on May 21, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., at the pavilion of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Angra do Heroísmo, bringing together senior residents for a day of fellowship, celebration, and community spirit deeply rooted in Azorean tradition.
The initiative was dedicated especially to the municipality’s senior population, offering an opportunity for social interaction and cultural celebration within the framework of the Holy Spirit festivities — traditions that remain at the heart of Azorean identity both on the islands and throughout the diaspora. The annual luncheon also serves as an important social initiative to combat isolation while recognizing the invaluable role older generations play in preserving the cultural memory and traditions of the Azores.

The event formed part of the municipality’s broader social and cultural outreach efforts, encouraging active civic participation and intergenerational connection. Initiatives such as this continue to strengthen community bonds and reinforce the social fabric of the municipality while celebrating the enduring legacy of the Divine Holy Spirit festivities.
“The organization of this luncheon in honor of the Divine Holy Spirit, dedicated to our senior population, reinforces the importance of sharing and valuing our traditions while promoting well-being and fellowship throughout the municipality,” said Fátima Amorim, Mayor of Angra do Heroísmo.
