While many publications slow down during the summer months, Novidades — The Islands and the Diaspora continues its mission of informing, connecting, and celebrating the Portuguese-speaking world.

Throughout June 2026, Novidades published 118 original stories, reflecting the vibrant life of the Azores, Madeira, mainland Portugal, and Portuguese communities across California and the wider diaspora. From culture and literature to education, immigration, community initiatives, history, and current affairs, every story represents another bridge connecting people separated by oceans but united by language, memory, and shared heritage.

Produced as a free public service by Bruma Publications in partnership with the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute at Fresno State, Novidades remains committed to documenting the evolving story of our communities with depth, accuracy, and heart.

Although the academic calendar is now on summer break until August 19, our work does not pause. New stories continue to be researched, written, and shared because the bridges between our islands and our diaspora are built every day—one story at a time.

118 stories. One month. An enduring commitment to keeping our communities connected.
