Recognizing the increased demand during the height of the summer travel season, Azores Airlines has announced additional flights between Lisbon and the islands of Faial and Pico, reinforcing air connectivity during one of the busiest periods of the year.
The airline will operate extra flights between Lisbon and Pico on August 8 and August 29, while additional service between Lisbon and Horta will be available on August 15 and September 5. These supplementary operations are designed to accommodate the seasonal surge in passenger traffic, providing greater flexibility for both residents and visitors traveling to the Central Group of the Azores.
During the peak of the IATA summer season, Azores Airlines already maintains ten weekly flights between Lisbon and Faial and six weekly flights between Lisbon and Pico. The new schedule will add an extra Saturday frequency on each route, expanding seat availability at a time when the islands welcome thousands of tourists, members of the Azorean diaspora returning for family visits and religious festivals, and travelers eager to experience one of Europe’s most remarkable destinations.
The additional flights also reflect the growing importance of Faial and Pico within the Azorean tourism landscape. Pico continues to attract international visitors drawn to its UNESCO World Heritage vineyards, the imposing silhouette of Portugal’s highest mountain, whale watching, and its rich maritime heritage. Neighboring Faial, with its historic harbor, volcanic landscapes, and reputation as one of the world’s legendary sailing destinations, remains an essential gateway to the Central Group and a crossroads for Atlantic travelers.

Azores Airlines has indicated that it will continue monitoring passenger demand throughout the season and adjust its schedule whenever operational conditions allow, seeking to respond to the mobility needs of both residents and visitors. Tickets for these additional flights have already been made available through the airline’s official sales channels and commercial partners.
