The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility, and Infrastructure, Berta Cabral, highlighted, at the opening session of the Go4Travel 2025 Summit, the “extraordinary” evolution and “growing qualification” of the Azores as a destination, emphasizing that the archipelago “is currently experiencing an unparalleled wave of positive tourism development, based on quality, authenticity, and sustainability.”
The event, which took place this weekend in Angra do Heroísmo and brought together dozens of professionals and strategic partners from national and international tourism, was described by the minister as “an important recognition of the Azores’ position in the Portuguese and global tourism landscape.” “The choice of the Azores, and Terceira Island in particular, to host this meeting is a reflection of the work of all those who believe in our destination and have contributed to raising it to a level of excellence,” said Berta Cabral. In her speech, the Regional Secretary highlighted the “qualitative growth” of the tourism offer, with “new high-standard accommodation units, innovative hospitality concepts, more creative and professional restaurants, and an expanding tourist entertainment sector.”

“The growth of tourism in the Azores has been accompanied by a consistent increase in the quality of the offer. The increase in revenue has consistently exceeded that of overnight stays, demonstrating that we generate more value, more income, and more positive impact on local businesses and communities,” she emphasized. Berta Cabral also recalled that the Azores are “the first and only archipelagic region in the world certified with Gold Level as a ‘Sustainable Destination’ by Earth Check,” a recognition that validates “a solid path shared between public and private entities and local communities.” The minister also praised the growing notoriety of the destination, distinguished as “Best Adventure Tourism Destination in the World” and “in Europe” by the World Travel Awards, and reaffirmed the Regional Government’s commitment to continue promoting “year-round tourism on all islands,” with a special focus on diversifying the offer and reducing seasonality. “We have unique conditions, authentic products, and hospitality that sets us apart.
Our tourism is now an engine of economic and social development, accounting for about 20% of regional GVA, 17% of GDP, and 17% of employment,” she stressed. In her closing remarks, Berta Cabral thanked Go4Travel for holding the event in the Azores, on Terceira Island. She highlighted the fundamental role of travel agencies and tour operators in consolidating and promoting the destination. “The positive evolution of the Azores is not a matter of chance. It is the result of joint work and a collective commitment to quality and sustainability. We are counting on you to continue promoting the Azores as a destination for authentic, sustainable, and memorable experiences,” she concluded.
